Urge Your Elected Officials To Protect Kids' Access To Food

-

Today, 1 in 5 kids in America struggles with hunger.

It's more important than ever to protect federal nutrition programs that feed our nation's children, but right now the sequester - which automatically cuts funding for a large number of federally funded programs - includes devastating cuts to the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), cutting 600,000 mothers and kids from the program altogether.

Sequestration also cuts billions from education funding, including Head Start programming that provides preschool aged kids with important health and nutrition services. More than 70,000 kids would lose access to Head Start under the plan.

Congress faces serious fiscal challenges, but cuts of this scale to WIC and early childhood education are short-sighted and will only lead to more children and families going hungry this year.

Take action today: Tell Congress not to balance the budget on the backs of children who need us.

Tell Congress: Support Victims of Military Sexual Trauma

-

At age 18, Ruth Moore joined the U.S. Navy, where she was raped by her supervisor. Moore reported the attack, and her supervisor raped her again in retaliation. No sexual assault charges were ever brought against her supervisor. It took Moore nearly 30 years to make her case and receive the PTSD disability benefits she deserved.

Servicewomen deserve so much better than this. Tell Congress to pass the Ruth Moore Act of 2013.

Currently, the procedure to access veteran benefits requires victims to first prove the sexual assault before accessing benefits. Because many sexual assaults go unreported or are not prosecuted, survivors often struggle to prove the sexual assault occurred, and thus cannot access the benefits they deserve.

The Ruth Moore Act changes the standard so that survivor testimony is sufficient proof to access disability benefits for military sexual trauma.

Send Congress a message: We must protect and serve the women who protect and serve the United States.

Pledge to Hold the USA to Her Ideals of Liberty & Justice For All

There are elements of this related to VAWA funding, to ENDA, PayCheck Fairness Act, Sequestration, the Budget, Voting Rights Act, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP (food stamps), Head Start, Special Education, Cancer and Diabetes and Altzheimers Research plus more and many things happening on the State level right now--opportunities abound!

Many political initiatives designed to strip segments of society of their rights and/or to make them less equal have emerged in Congress and State legislatures in recent years.  Some of them came from ALEC.  Targets include the poor, students, workers, minorities and the elderly (changes to voting rights), women (equal pay, discrimination protections, access to preventative care, contraception and abortion), LGBTQ (spousal benefits, adoption, marriage) and undocumented immigrants (AZ and AL, etc.).  Some have been proven unconstitutional by the reportedly most conservative SCOTUS in history; others are still working their way through the courts at taxpayer expense.

Impeach The Congress Of The United States

The Congress is supposed to be the People's House, not a place where our elected officials can hold us hostage.

Medicare for all should be a priority, not an option

-

Everyone should sign this petition, because we have an evergrowing healthcare program problem in the United States. Every other country around us has access to National healthcare but the United States. We need to tell our senators, house members, and President Obama to bring back the Medicare for all Act in Congress to Sign and put this legislation through to help all Americans. Please will sign this petition to let our congress and president that this is a major priority.

Stop paying congress for life

-

As American’s, we should ALL be appalled that Congress is holding us hostages over almost every issue that matters to the American people.  Jobs, increase minimum wages, taxes, the deficit, education, Social Security, Medicare, women's issues, the environment, including stealing our privacy all of which we have a say in when it comes to our constitutional rights and we want our voices to be heard.   I don't like being a hostage.  I say that we amend the U.S. Constitution and deny Congress their lifetime salaries, cost of living wage increases, and their health insurance benefits.

Will you be earning this kind of cash the rest of your life after performing for a year on the job?
