Challenge of the Tea Party movement

-

Much has been written of late regarding the emergence of the so-called Tea Party movement. I experienced it's vitriol last August at a public hearing on health care/insurance reform sponsored by Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD)

It looks to me like a lot of angry, frustrated, fearful white folks who having experienced the benefits of our society's public education system, white preference (no matter how subtle) in hiring and housing, and the like want to turn back the clock to the "good old days" of white priviledge. While benefitting from a good public education, they seem to betray it's benefits. Too easily pursuaded by uber conservative talking heads, they simply react rather than proact, becoming a storm troopers movement led by the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Glen Beck and Sean Hannity.

I am even more concerned with the high jacking of Christian values regarding care for the poor; Jesus' central message. An unholy alliance between conservative theocrats and neocons has been formed, the neocon small government movement has joined uber conservative theocons to oppose any real reforms of our nations economy, health care, protection of the environment, socially just immigration reform, or any other issues that in any way threaten the bottom line profits of the business community.

I Timothy 6: 9 & 10 says it all. "For those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and snares--"9 "For the love of money is the root of all evil--"10 Read love as lust and you have a clear picture of what is happening to the moral fiber of our nation. We now have even larger "too-big-to-fail" banks, setting us up for an even deeper and longer depression in the next few years. Rather than learning to reform their ways, bankers see themselves as survivors, still committed to gaming the system; "It'll be different next time, we won't make the same mistakes." Yeah, right; just new ones with even more disasterous effects.

Read the whole of the 2 verses and see if you see what I see, the corruption of our whole nation's moral system.

Now any reasonable reforms are met with angry whites spouting regurgitated neocons lies, stoked by fears of change. They seek return to the "good old days" of white priviledge, invigorated by a former beauty queen, moose hunter and stoked by the general incompetence of progressives too concerned with survival rather than any real reforms, placing politics before principle.

Now we have a disheartend progressive movement ready to cede the political field to the fear filled Tea Party movement.

I am converned for the future of our nation and our world. God help us.
